Continental Engine Overhaul Expertise
Aéro Atelier C.M. inc. has worked on Continental aircraft engines since 1980 from our Transport Canada-approved facility in Shawinigan. Each overhaul is performed using the current maintenance data, limits and requirements applicable to the exact Continental engine model and configuration. The purpose of the process is to establish the actual condition of the engine, complete the required repairs and replacements, and document the work for a compliant return to service.
A Controlled Engine Overhaul Process
The engine is completely disassembled, and components are cleaned using processes appropriate to the material and inspection that follows. Our technicians then evaluate the parts required by the applicable overhaul data. The quality of this work depends on both technical discipline and the transfer of knowledge between experienced technicians and the next generation. Our four-day workweek is also intended to support employee well-being and sustained attention in a precision maintenance environment.
Non-Destructive Testing and Dimensional Inspection
Critical parts are inspected using the methods required by the applicable maintenance data. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is performed where applicable and within the approved scope for the component involved; specialized testing outside that scope is entrusted to appropriately approved facilities. Crankshafts, camshafts, connecting rods, crankcases, cylinders, bearings and gears are evaluated using the relevant inspection criteria and Continental service limits for the exact engine configuration.
Machining, Fuel-System Components and Starter Adapters
The condition of each component determines the repair path. Parts requiring specialized machining or repair are processed under approved data, either within the capability of our shop or through appropriately approved aviation specialists. Continental engines also include model-specific systems and components, such as starter adapters on certain configurations, that require careful inspection against the applicable manufacturer criteria.
We provide aircraft cylinder repair and overhaul and work involving ignition-system components such as magnetos. Where an approved STC applies to the aircraft and engine combination, we can also discuss certified performance upgrades and the documentation required for the specific installation.
Continental continuous-flow fuel-injection systems and related components are evaluated and serviced according to the applicable engine and component data and the scope of work required. The exact work depends on the engine model, installed components and approved maintenance information. This same model-specific approach applies to engines such as the O-200, where crankcase condition, accessory gearing and other internal clearances must be evaluated against the current data for the exact configuration.
Assembly, Test Cell and Warranty
After inspection, repair and parts replacement are complete, the engine is assembled using the applicable Continental specifications and then operated on the test cell. Required operating parameters are monitored before release, and the customer receives the documentation applicable to the work performed. Warranty coverage for Continental overhaul work is governed by the warranty agreement and terms applicable to the specific job; current coverage should be confirmed with the quotation or warranty documentation for that engine.

Aéro Atelier works with a range of Continental piston-engine configurations, including common O-200, O-470, IO-520 and IO-550 families, along with other models where our approved capability, tooling, parts availability and the specific configuration allow. Continental nomenclature and applicability can vary significantly by model and suffix, so the complete data-plate designation and serial number should always be provided before planning an overhaul.
O-200
The Continental O-200 family consists of air-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engines widely used in light and training aircraft. Exact ratings, approved applications, service limits and overhaul recommendations depend on the specific model and current Continental data.
IO-360
Continental produced IO-360-family configurations with fuel injection and horizontally opposed cylinders. Exact nomenclature, ratings, applications and current service support must be confirmed from the complete model designation and current Continental documentation before work is planned.
