Lycoming Engine Overhaul Expertise

Lycoming aircraft engine overhaul expertise from Aéro Atelier in Shawinigan: teardown, inspection, approved repairs, assembly, test-cell validation and documented return to service.

Lycoming Engine Overhaul Expertise

Aircraft reliability depends on careful engine maintenance and accurate workmanship. Aéro Atelier C.M. inc. has worked on Lycoming aircraft engines since 1980 from our Transport Canada-approved facility in Shawinigan. Across our overall engine activity, the shop handles approximately 200 engines per year. Each overhaul is documented and performed using the maintenance data, limits and requirements applicable to the specific Lycoming model and configuration.

A Controlled Engine Overhaul Process

Our technicians follow a systematic process from engine receiving through final release. Complete disassembly is followed by cleaning and inspection of the components required by the applicable overhaul data. The quality of the work also depends on knowledge transfer between experienced technicians and the next generation. Our four-day workweek is designed in part to support employee well-being and sustained attention in a precision maintenance environment.

Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection

Inspection is used to establish the actual condition of critical parts before they are approved for continued service. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is performed as required by the applicable data and within the approved scope for the component involved; specialized work outside that scope is entrusted to appropriately approved facilities. Crankshafts, connecting rods, crankcases, cylinders, gears and other components are also evaluated dimensionally against the applicable Lycoming service limits.

Precision Machining, Cylinders and Accessories

Components requiring repair or reconditioning are processed according to approved data, either in our shop where the capability applies or through appropriately approved specialized facilities. We provide aircraft cylinder repair and overhaul and work involving ignition-system components such as magnetos. Where an approved STC applies to the aircraft and engine combination, we can also discuss certified engine performance upgrades and the documentation required for the specific installation.

Assembly, Test Cell and Warranty

After inspection, repair and parts replacement are complete, the engine is assembled using the applicable Lycoming specifications and then operated on the test cell. Required operating parameters are monitored before release, and the customer receives the applicable break-in information for the engine and cylinder configuration. Our current Lycoming overhaul warranty is one year with no flight-hour limit and is transferable from one owner to another, subject to the terms of the warranty agreement.

Lycoming Engine Families We Work With

Aéro Atelier regularly works with many normally aspirated Lycoming piston-engine configurations, including common O-235, O-320, O-360, IO-360, O-540 and IO-540 families and selected AEIO, LIO, LO, HO and HIO variants. Capability, parts availability and applicability must always be confirmed for the exact model, suffix, configuration and serial number. If your engine is not listed here, contact us with the complete engine designation so we can confirm whether we can support it.

Lycoming O-235 series aircraft engine

O-235 Series

The Lycoming O-235 family consists of air-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder aircraft engines widely associated with light aircraft and training applications. Exact ratings, configurations and overhaul requirements vary by model and must be confirmed in current Lycoming data.

Lycoming O-320 series aircraft engine

320 Series

The Lycoming 320 family includes air-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engines in carbureted and fuel-injected configurations. Power ratings, approved applications and recommended overhaul intervals vary by exact model, suffix and operating context; current Lycoming data must be consulted for the engine involved.

Lycoming O-360 series aircraft engine

360 Series

The Lycoming 360 family includes air-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engines with a wide range of carbureted and fuel-injected configurations. Horsepower, installation details and recommended overhaul intervals depend on the exact model and application; current Lycoming documentation is the controlling reference.

Lycoming O-540 series aircraft engine

540 Series

The Lycoming 540 family consists primarily of air-cooled, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engines available in numerous carbureted and fuel-injected configurations. The broader family also includes turbocharged derivatives. Power ratings, overhaul intervals and service availability depend on the exact model and application, so the complete engine designation must be confirmed before planning work.
